THREE MONTH PROGRAMME IN APOSTOLIC SPIRITUALITY

January 16th- April 9th 2009

Rose in St Beuno's Gardens

At the very centre of this programme is the making of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola.
What precedes the retreat is designed to serve as a preparation for the Exercises.
What follows deepens the experience and helps participants use it in their future work.
While there is ample free time to explore the magnificent countryside around St. Beuno's the programme is a demanding one.

Part 1. RELATIONSHIPS: HUMAN AND DIVINE
the elements include:

  • Ways of praying
  • Deepening the awareness of God's presence
  • Reflection on Experience
  • Enneagram Workshop
  • Developing an holistic approach to Ignatian Spirituality using art, clay, music and poetry.

As a contrast to our often hectic lives this first section of the three month course moves at an unhurried pace to allow for a deepening awareness, understanding and acceptance of both self and others. A lively and insighful Enneagram workshop is given by the Irish Jesuit Fr Myles O'Reilly.
We spend one day on a coach tour of the magnificent scenery of North Wales. Whilst one evening of this first section is given over to the music and culture of Wales in a delighful 'Welsh Evening'.

Part 2. THE FULL SPIRITUAL EXERCISES OF ST IGNATIUS LOYOLA

The full Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius Loyola is given as a silent, individually guided retreat. Participants follow the themes of the Exercises allowing the meditations on the life of Christ to interact with their own lives.

Part 3. DEEPENING AND PROFITING BY THE EXPERIENCE
the elements include:

  • Discernment: personal and communal
  • A faith that does Justice - A Workshop led by the Irish Jesuit, Fr Peter McVerry.
  • The dynamics of the Spiritual Exercises
  • Prayer beyond the beginnings
  • Using the Exercises to help other in Prayer - Writer, Margaret Silf will look at how to help others in prayer.

Like its companion earlier unit, this third one allows sufficient time for a deep appropriation of how God works in life. Time is given for individual reflection and study as well as working together as a group.
