IGNATIUS
AND THE EXERCISES
Ignatius was born in Loyola in 1491, son of minor Basque
nobility. He is best known as the 'soldier saint'. He fought
in defence of the Spanish crown, was wounded and turned
seriously to religion.
He wrote a vast number of letters, a simple autobiography
of his conversion, a diary and his best known work, the
Spiritual Exercises.
His Exercises encourage the person who follows them to allow
the life of Christ to interact with their own life.
His two main thrusts were:
1. always look for the 'Greater Glory of God', never be
satisfied with second best;
2. 'Finding God in all things;. God is in our everyday life;
we don't have to withdraw to special places to find God. |
