HOPKINS AT BEUNO'S

A retreat with the life and poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins

with Fr Billy Hewett SJ
July 17-22, 2009
                                                Hopkins Lecture - 1st August

Gerard Manley Hopkins

After two very successful weekend retreats using the poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins as inspiration to lead us into prayer, Fr Hewett will this year be extending the retreat to a four day one.

Fr Hewett will be presenting a number of poems with some reflections of his own.  The extended period of retreat will allow the poems of Hopkins to take us deeper into relationship with the Creator God.

The retreat will be in silence as an aid to prayer and you will be encouraged to write and be creative.

Spring Blossoms in St Beuno's

PIED BEAUTY

Glory be to God for dappled things -
For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow;
For rose-moles all in stipple upon trout that swim;
Fresh-firecoal chestnut-falls; finches' wings;
Landscape plottted and pieced - fold, fallow, and plough;
And all trades, their gear and tackle and trim.

All things counter, original, spare, strange;
Whatever is fickle, freckled (who knows how?)
With swift, slow; sweet, sour; adazzle, dim;
He fathers-forth whose beauty is past change;
Praise him.
