By Road
- St. Beuno's lies halfway between Rhuallt
and Tremeirchion just off the B5429.
When traveling east from Holyhead or Conwy on the
A55 take exit 28 signed Rhuallt B5429.
Take a right turn at the roundabout at the junction,
then another right in the village opposite the Smithy
Inn.
When travelling west from Chester or Queensferry take
exit 29. Be alert it is the second Tremeirchion turnoff
and the sign is hidden by a bend.
In the village of Rhuallt, opposite the Smithy
Arms, take the road to Tremeirchion and Bodfari.
St. Beuno's is the first left turn
after about half a mile. MULTIMAP
By Train Or Coach - The
nearest rail station to St. Beuno's is Rhyl
on the North Wales Coast Line. Rhyl
is also the nearest National Express coach stop.
There are always taxis at the railway station and in
Water Street near the Town Hall. (From London to Rhyl
by coach is not really practical - over 7 hours journey
for £27.50+ and there are unlikely to be taxis
near the bus stop)
What time to come?
If you are coming on one of our standard retreats we
ask you to arrive in the afternoon. Anytime between
2.30pm and 6pm is fine, but if you are coming by train
the times below might be helpful.
Share
a taxi? In order to save both money and the environment
we suggest that you try and share a taxi from the station
in Rhyl. In order to do this it might be helpful to
take take the train which arrives in Rhyl at
16.29 on weekdays, leaving the following stations:
(Cost for 2010 £14 single)
London Euston
13.30 or 13.40
Manchester Picaddilly
14.50
Warrington Bank Quay
15.26
Crewe 15.21
Chester 15.55
If you contact our local taxi firm before you leave
and give the time your train is expected to arrive at
Rhyl station, then they will be there with a 'St Beuno's'
card and will pick up any other people on your train
who respond to the card - thus saving you all money.
Contact e-mail or phone Colin,
at A2B
Taxis Rhyl on: 01745 334433
NB. We cannot give the names of others
who might be needing a taxi, firstly because we don't
know who is travelling by train and who by car, and
secondly it is not ethical to pass on the names and
contact details of people without their permission.
So it is not worthwhile ringing our secretary to ask
"Is there anyone else coming to Rhyl station
at 4pm?" You might try St Beuno's Twitter
page to leave a message asking for a joint taxi with
your time? Beunos is our name.
Some Taxi firms charge up to £25 for a single
journey: We have negotiated with Coastline Taxis and
A2B Taxis for a cost of £14. Ask for costs before
you commit yourself to a taxi if you haven't booked.
For 2010 there are detours on some routes which give
an excuse for some firms to charge extra, so we advise
prior booking of taxis.
If you are leaving St Beuno's with a group, then the
taxi will leave at 9.15 in the morning and get to the
station in time for trains leaving from about 9.45am.
St Beuno's will pay for a taxi on the official end day
of each retreat.
For
the Fit- by Bus and Foot
If you are young and fit and want to save money, then
you can take the 51 bus from outside the railway station
to St Asaph. The walk from St Asaph to St Beuno's should
take just over an hour.
Get off at the Cathedral, walk down Chester Road to
the footbridge over the A55. Continue on Holywell Road
(parallel to the busy A55) at the roundabout go straight
across to Rhuallt. At The Smithy Inn turn right to Tremeirchion.
We are about 1Km on the left. You can get a map from
'multimap' below.
