WELCOME TO VISITORS FROM OVERSEAS

Welsh Flag

CROESO I GYMRU

When you come to visit St Beuno's you will be welcomed to Wales, a country with its own government and language which is part of the United Kingdom.  There are no border posts between England and Wales, but you will notice that the red dragon of Wales will be flying proudly from the flagpoles and all roadsigns will be in Welsh and English.

Climate
It is said that in Britain we don't have a climate, just weather.  All the year round the weather changes from day to day and hour to hour.  There are no sunny seasons or rainy seasons.
In winter the daytime temperatures will range from around freezing to about 12C.  In summer from 10C-20C.  Anything more than 22C is considered a heatwave and people complain.  Generally snow might fall any time from the end of November to the beginning of April, but it rarely stays on the ground for more than three days before it melts.

Sunset is at 10pm in June and 3.30pm in December - a big variation.

Raincoats are useful all the year round.   If you are coming from a tropical or even a Mediterranean climate then bring warm clothes even in summer.

Locality
St Beuno's is in the countryside. The nearest shop is just over an hour's walk away. There is one bus a day to the nearest town of Rhyl.  Basic toiletries and medicines are for sale in St Beuno's.

Food
British food has expanded its horizons over recent years.  Potatoes, meat and vegetables are still common, but rice, curry and pasta are increasingly popular.  For many tastes european food tends to be considered bland - but that's the way we like it!

Visas
For short stays (less than 6 months) visitors from many countries do not need a visa.  As regulations vary frequently, it is best to check with requirments on current websites.  The UK Border Agency has a quick check-list to see whether you will need a visa.  If you do, please have a look at our visa page which gives a few hits that might be useful in your applying for a visa.
For PILGRIMAGE Schengen visa see our Visa Page

Health Care
Visitors from the European Union are entitled to free health-care under the UK National Health Service (NHS).  To ensure you get this please apply for the European Health Card before you leave home.
Visitors from outside the EU will probably be expected to pay for health care (£40 for a consultation with the doctor).  Please ensure you have adequate health insurance.  Unlike certain countries however, in an emergency you will be treated first and questioned about payment later.
Though St Beuno's is in the countryside we are close to a major hospital and our doctors are happy to see visitors.
