IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF IGNATIUS - IGNATIAN PILGRIMAGE

Ignaitus the PilgrimVisiting

LOYOLA - PAMPLONA - XAVIER - MANRESA - MONTSERRAT - BARCELONA - ROME

NOVEMBER 1-13 (provisional dates for 2012)

Travelling in the Footsteps of Ignatius the Pilgrim, will give us an opportunity to focus on what made the man tick and how he developed a spirituality which has stood the test of time. We shall consider how the upbringing and life of Ignatius affected his Spiritual Exercises and what later became known as Ignatian Spirituality.

Fr. Birchall SJ will give a series of evening talks on Ignatius.  Linking Ignatius his upbringing, personality and his time and how these elements coloured the Spiritual Exercises.

A WALKING PILGRIMAGE

This pilgrimage includes much walking up and downhill and taking in steps.  The walking is mainly in towns and on streets, so good comfortable walking shoes are necessary.  We walk for over an hour at a stretch in Rome.  The pilgrimage is therefore not suitable for people with walking difficulties or who cannot manage to walk at a normal healthy adult walking speed. This walking enables us to join more faithfully with Ignatius and capture much of the atmosphere of places where he lived.

"WE HOPE TO ...?"

We need special permission for much of the itinerary.  Over the four years we have been running these pilgrimages we have usually obtained access to most of the places advertised, but we are dependent upon places being open, not being under major repair or booked for major events - or the Jesuit superior General being in Rome and not too busy to see us, the boys Choir of Montserrat not being on tour.   This is why the phrase 'We hope to...' is included in the itinerary above.
