ADAPTING THE SPIRITUAL EXERCISES

A Seminar: June 23-26, 2013

A
Seminar led by Gemma Simmonds CJ
June 23-26, 2013
How can a book of spiritual Exercises written by a Sixteenth
Century Spanish nobleman meet the spiritual needs of women and
men in the twenty-first century?
Gemma, who teaches Spirituality at Heythrop College, University
of London, is a lively and insightful presenter. She will lead
us in looking at the text of the Exercises in its historical context
and exploore its relevance and the adaptations necessary for today.
This seminar is intended for those who are involved with Ignatian
Spirituality either giving retreats, in religious formation or
in spiritual direction. It is expected that participants will
have made the Exercises in one form or other and be familar with
them. This is not a retreat and is not in silence. People who
participate in the three day seminars will join a larger number
of people who are involved in a ten week retreat giving and spiritual
direction programme. The sharing with other participants in the
seminar is a valued part of the experience.
The seminar finishes after lunch on the 26th.
