Is there more to see than meets the eye when we watch a film? What effect does our seeing have on us? Does God come into the picture?
This themed retreat will explore a particular way of engaging with cinema: watching films prayerfully through the lens of Ignatian spirituality and exploring how we might go about finding God in film.
Rather than analysing film intellectually this retreat will focus prayerfully on our personal engagement with films, drawing on time-honoured wisdom from the spirituality of St Ignatius of Loyola.
What do we notice when we begin to look closely not only at the screen but inwards at ourselves: at what our seeing stirs in us emotionally, imaginatively, spiritually? How might God be wanting to meet us in film?
The retreat will offer space for watching a variety of films, old and new, for input and guided reflection by the team, and for sharing in small groups on a level you are comfortable with. There will be spaces for talking as well as for individual quiet and enjoyment of the silence of the house and its grounds in the beautiful Vale of Clwyd.
The retreat begins at 6.25pm, (bedrooms are available from 4pm). Please try to arrive between 4pm and 5pm to have time to settle in. The retreat finishes after breakfast on the last day.
