God met me on the path today;
he stood, his unblinking eyes
watching me gently, passively
to see if I would move.
His two long ears upright,
catching the prayers of the heart;
his nose twitching,
alert with all his senses
to the universe around him;
creation intertwined.
God met me on the path today;
divinity in velvet fur,
incarnation watching, waiting,
a holy presence nibbling grass.
Around us, nature breathed -
a feathered angel paused,
yellow beak closed in silent prayer.
Me and God, encountering,
looking beyond outer skin.
Did he see God in me?
God met me on the path today;
we reached our mutual 'amen',
I walked, God hopped,
the angel flew,
and the world, in all its complexity
and beautiful mystery,
continued to turn in endless motion
unaware amidst ceaseless noise
that God is still with us
on the path.
