This short course in Ignatian retreat giving is for experienced Spiritual Directors who have completed the full Spiritual Exercises (as a retreatant) and who would like to explore some of the skills in giving short Ignatian retreats.
The course will consider how the Spiritual Exercises can be adapted for different forms of one to one retreats, particularly weeks of guided prayer in daily life and residential individually guided retreats.
We will consider:- a model of Ignatian accompaniment and its application to the retreat setting; discernment of spirits; the person of the director, the 'Ignatian day'; how to help people to pray; the place of supervision; some common retreat dynamics.
It is a requirement that poeple have completed a Spiritual Direction training course (not necessarily Ignatian) and have been practicing one to one spiritual direction for some time.
Please note that this course does not train people to give the Full Spiritual Exercises.
Please arrive between 2.30pm and 4.30pm on the first day to have time to settle in. The retreat finishes after breakfast on the last day.
