The course is primarily experiential in nature; using individual and group work.

  • Inputs, overviews of the process, talks on specific topics given by the team.
  • Observed practice of the skills used in spiritual direction
  • Feedback from trainers on skills / gifts observed in practice sessions
  • Structured reflection on personal growth and learning.

Requirements:  The course is intended for those with some experience and training in one to one work with people.  It is usually a pre-requisite for applicants to this course to have attended the ‘Spiritual Conversation Course’ and to have a recommendation from their tutor on the course that they are ready to undertake training in spiritual direction. (Such recommendations are given at the end of the Spiritual Conversation course rather than at a later date.)  In some circumstances it may be possible to attend this course without having attended Spiritual Conversation course if there is significant prior training and previous experience.

Participants should also have made the full Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius Loyola, having done this as a retreat in daily life (19th annotation), or residentially as a 30 day retreat or in stages.
